This course provides a one-hour introduction to the Next-Generation Radio Access Network (NG-RAN) which is part of the 3GPP 5G System. It outlines why and how the NG-RAN is different from previous generations’ radio access networks. It describes various implementation options e.g. C-RAN and Open RAN and outlines key NG-RAN concepts like Dual Connectivity and Network Slicing.

Upon completion of this learning program, you will be able to:

• List and describe different deployment options: Standalone (SA), Non-Standalone (NSA), Split RAN Architecture, Open RAN
• Describe the main functions of the 5G gNB
• Outline the main 5G network features that get specialized support in 5G NG-RAN: New Radio Dual Connectivity, Multi-RAT Dual Connectivity, Network Slicing
